torticollis treatment
Torticollis is a fixed, tilted position of the head, which results from muscle shortening on one side of the neck. It causes babies to constantly have their head tilted to one side.
Do you notice your baby always sleeping with their head turned the same way, or latching on to one breast better than the other?
This may indicate the presence of torticollis.
If torticollis is left untreated, it can lead to:
- A change in head shape
- A flat spot on the baby’s head (plagiocephaly),
- Secondary problems in the spine (scoliosis)
Osteopathic torticollis treatment consists of gentle muscle work and stretching, as well as resolving any compression or asymmetry in the base of the skull that often contribute to the problem.
In conjunction with the treatment, we show you home management and stretching techniques to ensure your baby responds as quickly as possible.
Because of the potential long term impacts of a head tilt on the whole spine, it is VITAL the problem is addressed. A lot can be done, both by parents and the osteopath to help.
Don't wait. Call now for more information or to make an appointment on 02 9907 8919.
